The world thinnest paper -"Tengujoshi"
We are permeated with the theme of "Washi" since we established 60 years ago. Not paper making, but "Washi". This obsession can be clearly evidenced on our company name. Hidaka Washi is originatef from the establishment of Export Tengujoshi Union in 1949 by 10 paper-making craftsmen of Tosa Tengujoshi living at village in the valley called Kusaka. At that time, hand-made Tengujoshi was popular for export as base paper for typewriter. This hand-made traditional paper-making technique was applied to machine paper-making in 1969. The 1st memorable suspended short-wire paper machine was born from our plant. Then, our corporate name changed to present Hidaka Washi. Back to the days of hand-made Tosa Tengujoshi, we have been concentrated on making "Washi", applying traditional preparation skill in order to meet the demands of the times. In order to meet and fulfill the customers' exact requirements by upgrading and developing the new technologies and skills, we became a small but distinctive paper-making company.

Overview of products, facilities and manufacturing techniques
There is a strong resemblance to hand-made washi for our machine-made products. This enabled by our hand-treatment skills of raw materials. At Hidaka Washi, the preparation method to final scooping process has not changed since in the period of making hand-made washi. From traditional decorative papers to totally new style of washi, we are producing all sorts of washi. Our decorative paper is referred to as "wing of mayfly" because of its thinness. We produce thinnest decorative paper in Japan, but we also insist its dazzling white colour, which is choline-free bleached.
